The word “entertain” has come to be largely associated with entertainment in its various forms, although it may have more serious purposes in some cases. Its roots lie in the Medieval Latin intertenere, which means to hold inside; it may also be traced to the Indo-European root ten, meaning “to stretch.” The fall 2011 issue of T E News attempted to examine the voluminous subject of Entertainment and its corresponding industry, with the goal of creating a form that is both entertaining and informative. The result is an attempt to present the many facets of Entertainment as they have been transformed over time.
